Jane Pickering is known and celebrated as the compiler of one of the most important manuscript sources for English Renaissance and Baroque lute music, as well as for her beautiful handwriting, endearing her especially to fellow lutenists. The famous 'Jane Pickering Lute Book,' now preserved in the British Library (MS Egerton 2046), apparently represents her own repertoire of relatively complex music for lute, of which she was a serious student and an accomplished amateur performer, it would seem.
