10 ideas for summer vacations - Edition 2024
The summer vacations are coming soon, what can you do with your Celtic harp?
The summer period is always a special time when you're learning an instrument or taking up a hobby, because everything slows down and sometimes even stops.
So what to do during this period? Here are a few tips and ideas!
1 - Rest!!!
And yes!
Sometimes breaking the routine and not playing also allows you to take a breather and take stock, and above all to rest your knowledge a little. I'm often told by students that they're afraid to stop and forget, but the brain is more complex than that, and sometimes it helps to clarify and unblock some of your knowledge.
2 - Taking stock
ÉWrite down what you've learned, making a list of positive and negative points and what you'd like to learn, in terms of technique or a list of pieces, can motivate you to continue in the fall.
3- Carrying your harp
Share with family or or take advantage of a bright morning to play in the great outdoors!
4- Consider renting
a small harp on site, or borrow one in your area!
5- Think about what's next with your harp
If it's a rental, perhaps set up a strategy to buy it or go in search of your harp
6- Research the world of the Harp
on YouTube/spotify or elsewhere about future tracks, or harpists to discover!
who is Alan Stivell, Turlough O'Carolan, Loreena McKennitt...
Harpist Catrin Finch embarks on a musical journey to discover the fascinating early history of the harp in Wales and around the world, with interviews and performances by internationally renowned guests including Alan Stivell, Carlos Orosco, Alemu Aga, Isabelle Perrin and Elinor Bennett. - BBC Four
7- Consider a change in teaching methods - Part 1 -
or by changing teachers - yes, I'm the one who encourages you to do this, and I regularly talk to my students about it, because it can make a difference, because each teacher has his or her advantages and disadvantages, and you can't claim to know everything!
8- Consider a change in teaching methods - Part 2 -
Find out how to get into a local music school or conservatory. By choosing this option, where there's more interaction than with an individual teacher, you get to meet more people! And these structures often offer year-round activities such as encounters, concerts and workshops....
9- Fun activity
If you're visiting a region and love old stones, don't hesitate to visit places like churches, cathedrals...because you'll often find musicians and harpists in stained-glass windows or statues! But be careful: if you find a figure with a harp and, above all, a crown, you've won the jackpot, because you'll be standing in front of a representation of King David! It's a fun little game to play with the kids, as well as coloring harps...
10- Travelling in Ireland
Home of the Celtic harp!!! Follow in the footsteps of characters like Turlough O'Carolan and experience an Irish session! You'll bring back souvenirs and lots of harps in the form of badges, key-rings, stickers...
